Look its really funny how the people who could help tell people to be self sufficient when theyre asked, but the same people that talk about how they shouldnt have to help people have the greatest sense of entitlement

The knowledge that I improved our country in a substantial way is of great worth to me, and there are a great many situations where I would not be interested in receiving money in return for my knowledge. If my contribution directly improves my life, such as turning in a dangerous criminal or improving the security of this country and her economy, then money is not an issue. Any threat to a neighbor or a fellow citizen is a threat to me. Also, if my contribution brings great fame or recognition, which improves my social standing and my business opportunities, money is not an issue.

On the other hand, if I loose more than I gain by providing knowledge, as in the technology for a revolutionary new machine (even a war machine), then I would require a price for the knowledge (if I provided it). If the knowledge that I provided implicated me in anything which might hurt my social standing or career/business opportunities, then money is definitely an issue (if I reveal anything at all).

Recognition is about as good as money, but when my interests are at stake, I cannot require either money or recognition, lest my interests are not advanced.

I am in the age bracket that never had to register for the draft. I have watched a very bad and disturbing trend of Anti-Americanism develop from this same group. Many do not really feel an Identity with this Country because they have never understood what it means to be a part of it!
I would strongly support a 4 year stint being required or at least "Drafted" to do something for the Country.

This could mean Job Corps, Military service/Job training(W/benefits), Medical School/assistance/Training, Peace Corp or many other types of service! This could also pave the way for Universal Health Care-because you would have earned it as well as other beneficial aspects!(College, Social Services Etc.)

I know it reeks a little of socialism-but earned socialism!

Fact is, people will have made a commitment to their country and share in it's future!

Nope.

I would gladly, and do help people, those I can see and hear and share their problems.

Not the 'government'. Those are politicians, which are a little below lawyers in low life-forms of earth. Sorry, I dont thrust those guys farther than I can throw them (which is not far). Experience has taught me to be weary of power-seekers.

Definitely, though cash would make the decision easier. Though supporting your country is much more important.

I would, and gladly.
Remember what John F. Kennedy said:
"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."
I wish more Americans, lay people and politicians, remember this quote, and take it to heart.

I don't care about good citizenship or recognition. In this day and age in the US it's all about the benjamins...
