I'm renting a house and the wood floors look really bad and in my bedroom I want something to distract from the defaced wood floor. Not the entire room, just in the largest empty space that would draw a lot of attention. I'm not going to install carpet and they don't make area rugs in the right size so what should I do to make my space look better...I can't put up with this.

You can purchase a piece of carpet (sometimes remnants work) and have it cut to the right size and a binding put on it. The floor covering store should have information on doing this. If they don't try another place. I have had it done and it works great.

If you have a store like World Market or Pier 1 nearby you should probably be able to get their wicker squares floor rugs.

They come in 1 foot wide strips of 9 or 10 for 10 feet.

You can buy exactly the square footage you would like because you can sew them together in any configuration you like.

And, if you are feeling creative, you could also use trays and something like rit dye and dye some of the squares in contrasting colors.

best,

The first carpets (the ones George Washington and Abe Lincoln had) were canvas (tent material) with pictures painted on them.
