take control of your life for starters..dont be a bit player in other peoples life stories... make your own story..that being said...tell the guy the truth..romance with him is not one of your priorities and treading water in a nowhere relationship isnt doing either one of you any favors.. if you want him to like you as a friend then tell him his good qualities and say he deserves to be with someone who loves him for him and though he is a great guy..that person isnt you

First of all, stop letting your friends run your life.
No matter what you do, if he likes you, it will hurt. But it's better to let him know now than later when he may like you even more.
Simply sit him down (not over the phone), and tell him that it just isn't working it out for YOU, and that you don't want to be unfair to him. DO NOT TELL HIS FRIENDS OR YOURS that you are planning on doing this or discussing this with them ahead of time. It will get back to him and that will only hurt him more. If folks ask about it afterwards, it was just a relationship that wasn't a good fit, or you feel you are too young to be in a relationship right now (which you must be if you allowed your friends to "get (you) a boyfriend.

There is no way to do it easily. As far as remaining friends... That will take time. You can not stay with someone because your friends introduced you. You stay if it makes you happy. If you are not. move on. The longer you wait the more it will hurt. You surely do not want to meet Mr Right while with Mr Wrong.

just be straight forward and tell him you prefer to be just friends with him. and that you two can still hang out together as friends only.
leading him to believe there's more to it will only hurt his feelings more.
introduce him to some of your single g/f's.

Just be straight with him, and say that a relationship is not what you want with him, and you just want to remain friends.

rule your own life
no one knows what's better for you and feels best to you, than YOU
tell the guy the truth.
"I like you as a friend...but......" or something...
