I have an ugly green leather sofa and loveseat and would like to slipcover them until I can afford to buy a new set. Any suggestions (brands? helpful hints?)

measure your sofa by..
run the tape from the floor on the side over the arms, seats and down the other side to the floor then add about a foot more for creases. then measure the width the same way from the floor over the back down the seat and to the floor then add another foot for creases. Most upholstery fabrics come in 54" or 60" widths so you will need to sew it together. Careful with large patterned fabrics you may need to buy extra depending on the repeat. Then throw it over your sofa and tuck it in.
second method: Go to store and purchase a pre-made slipcover for 10 times the value. walmart has them for about 50 bucks

You could try a double or king size flat sheet. There are some really nice ones. To help keep it in place on the slippery leather, sew tabs onto the edge in the back and use bungee cords. Put one hook through the tabs and the other can be hooked on the bottom edge in the back. For a sofa, I'd probably use 3. One on each end and one in the middle. The reason i suggest a sheet instead of blanket is that its much easier to wash and stands up better under continued washing. Then add a few throw pillows to complement the colors in the covering and it should look great.

Try eBay~~ I won a loveseat cover for $6.00 awhile back. BUT it might be tricky getting a slipcover to stay in place on leather. Have you thought about buying a couple of throw blankets and some large decorative pillows to sort of spruce them up? They can make a really big difference..and a cheap fix! Get something that accents and compliments other pieces in your room, like your curtains or artwork and it will draw attention away from your solid color sofa;) Don't be afraid to try stripes, florals or other patterns that you would like. Mix & match.
Good Luck!!
