A common view that the sons of God married the daughters of men were fallen angels, and that the nephilim were products of those marriages. Do you believe this? (see Genesis 6:2-4 and Job 38:7). Tell me what you think!

To my understanding the Nephilim were giants, and it is believed that evidence exists that support the theory that there might still be some giants around today. I'm not sure about the extraterrestial angle. This subject is discussed frequently on the talk-radio show Coast to Coast AM. You can do further research on it by going to their website: coasttocoastam.com and going thru their list of past guests. Hope this helps.

What I feel about these particular verses of scripture is really not that important. A theological inference is playing fast and loose with the word of God and that's the best people can do with those verses . Sure I have my opinion and probably studied it more then most, but I have heard many a preacher preach on this verse and say dogmatically "Thus sayeth the Lord" as if it were some nailed down doctrine clearly spelled out in scripture. When I go into eternity I will have the answer to this question. There are some questions that we have about God that will never be answered this side of heaven. One such question is, "Why are some saved but not others?" By the way I know a Baptist preacher who confidently thinks he knows the answer to this question. I think he feels he's God.

Nephilim,” meaning “Fellers,” denotes individuals who caused others to fall. They were tyrannical bullies, and the sin of their lustful fathers is likened to the perversions of Sodom and Gomorrah. (Jude 6, 7)

sons of the true God continued to have relations with the daughters of men and they bore sons to them, they were the mighty ones who were of old, the men of fame.” (Genesis 6:2-4)

The Nephilim were the hybrid offspring of illicit unions between women and materialized renegade angels.—1 Peter 3:19, 20.

The sons of God mentioned at Genesis 6:2, therefore, must have been angels, spirit “sons of God.”

This expression is applied to angels at Job 1:6; 38:7

. This view is supported by Peter, who speaks of “the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient when the patience of God was waiting in Noah’s days.” (1Pe 3:19, 20)

Also Jude writes of “the angels that did not keep their original position but forsook their own proper dwelling place.” (Jude 6)

You're in very murky water there. It is possible, and the wording of certain versions of the Bible hint at this, that the Nephilim (Nefilim, whatever) were extra-terrestrials, possibly a race of beings more advanced than our own. As the Bible was not written to give scientific knowledge but a guide to living it unfortunately is a bit vague on the subject.
My personal belief is that the gap in the evolutionary record of man, between true apes and the first true man speaks volumes. It suggests to a questioning mind that apes were genetically tampered with, their evolution drastically accelerated, to create man. Obviously it would be difficult to prove such a theory, however it does explain the gap and a number of other scientific flaws in evolution.
If you want to read some fiction based around this subject try the "Ancient Future" trilogy by Traci Harding.
For non-fiction maybe try checking www.wikipedia.org

Could be....who is to say what extraterrestrials are....God created the Heavens (plural) and the earth.(singular)..He does not state explicitly that we are the only humans He created..(or at least I have never read it).....I tend to think they were fallen angels though, hence the lower case s in sons.....I have also heard some theologians say that this was the linage of Goliath..something else to think about...some say there are flying saucers in Ezechiel.....very interesting question by the way...Peace Out!!

Whoa whoa whoa! Okay, I just finished Bible History, and we discussed this alot. The Nephilim, the Rephilim, all those, were descendants of angels who came to earth and either had sex with or married women on earth. They were not sons of God. Technically, we are all children of God if we accept His gift, but there is only one Son of God, and that is Jesus Christ.

According to the Bible, the Nephilim were a race of giants that died out during the Flood. Even after the Flood, the Bible mentions their apparently continued existence.

The nephilim (SP?) were the bastard offspring between human females & angels (sons of GOD).. and were in fact the primary reason for the biblical flood (to get rid of them) getting rid of 'evil man" was just a secondary perk to said flood...

ET's the nephrilim? Nope.. borne here of human women (men of renown in those days in fact) so no.. no ET there.. the fathers could be considered ET's though as they were/are not of earth..

read it again...

Silly humans ya'll always gotta think yer just that important.. Ummm NOPE...

(seriously do any of you people actually even read yer own books or do you just take preacher joes word for it.. If so i got a bridge to sell ya in NYC ... and some swampland in Florida.. email me for details)

No. Even by the pure definition of the term ... extra terrestrials meaning not from earth ... they weren't. Their fathers were tho.

They could explain many of the stories from Greek Mythology about men with superhuman strength like Hercules. The name "Nephilim" actually translates to "fellers".

Zorro, Read Enoch I,II,III (google it online). Absolutely, I believe this. So did Enoch (one of God's prophets). Apparently, the Watchers/Grigori (Angels/Sons of God) made a pact (200 of them)o n Mt Hermon, near Jordan. They gave out the secrets of the heavens to mortal women and people at that time and the women gave birth to giants (like David and Goliath) called Nehillim. They existed then, and now. Check out the myths of Greece and Rome of the God's coming to mortal women and creating Titans who fought.......The flood occurred to eradicate them from the earth, but their spirits when they died could not go to heaven so they were bound to the earth as demons (some say like vampires, because they ran out of food to eat as mortals, and started eating humans). The Rephaim are descendants of the Philistines and the Anakim were other giants in the area (hittite land as well). Archaeological evidence found human remains that were 15 ft or more tall in that area. Even Asmodeus (32nd demon in Solomon's Greater Key)when he was bound by Solomon told him that they(the demons)would be worshipped as Gods and that "they" would walk the earth again....So, many of these Dead Sea Scrolls were so contraversial, they were left intentionally out by the people responsible for compiling the Bible (while you read Enoch, read also Tobit, and other stories from the Zohar- Jewish mysticism/myths/stories.
