Everything depends on what you are eating now, what you are exercising now, and whether or not you are gaining weight. If your weight is staying constant right now, then you need to create a calorie deficit in your daily routine, by eating less and exercising more. If you can come up with 500 calories per day, you will lose 3,500 calories a week, which equals 1 pound. Now, if you are gaining weight with your current diet, you'll have to cut it more.
Best activities are anything you will do on a regular basis. If you want to start off walking and build up intensity - great. If you want to play tennis 3 times a week, that's great too. You are looking for at least 30 minutes of cardio 3 times a week, plus strength training at least twice a week.
Eating - look at the food pyramid site for ideas, but you need to be eating at least 1,200 calories a day, drinking 8 glasses of water, and plenty of fruits and vegetables.
Good luck - make sure you find some support for when times get rough.

1. Do not drink soda unless it's club soda.
2. Drink lots of water - even if you aren't thirsty. It will help flush out any impurities in your system. This can be the hardest for those that aren't used to drinking water.
3. Do some moderate exercise - take the dog for a walk... run around the block, join a gym - but you don't have to over-do it.
Yes, there is more to it than this... but if you can manage to change your lifestyle just enough to follow these 3 steps, you are 90% there.

Weight Watchers is the best way in my opinion. It teaches you how to eat and the proper amounts to eat. You can go to their website and log in for free, go to the message boards and get tons of info from the members...check it out...
