first off you dont want to buy a dog from a pet store cause the pet stores get their puppies from what is called a puppy mill and a puppy mill puppy lives in such nasty filthy condions, but if you do just have to have this one certain dog then it may be sicker then a dog you would get from a reputiable breeder, yes they do chew alot, so you will need to get a crate for it big enough for the dog to lay down and stand up and turn around, about the fighting with another dog it will depend on how your beagle is with other dogs, you will want to introduce them with both of them on a leash so if there is a fight then you can seperate them quickly, about the potty training, it shouldnt take long it all depends on how consistante you are with the puppy and you will need to crate train it, that means when you are not able to be with your puppy at all times then you need to put the puppy in the crate and then take him out to go potty as soon as you get him out of the crate, I hope this has helped and good luck with the new puppy if your parents let you get it,
Also you will need to get alot of chew toys for the puppy to chew on so it doesnt chew on things you dont want it to chew on like dog bones and a kong toy,

Gosh it's great getting your first dog! Sadly, I would recommend that you do not ever purchase a puppy/dog from a pet store. I'm uncomfortable with the amount of puppy mills and would never want to donate to the cause. Now to your questions, #1 No, pups don't really get sick often. They do have to get shots in the first years of it's life, and these can be expensive, but are definately an important part of bringing up a puppy. #2 Some pups are real hard to potty, you try and try but they still have mistakes that need to be cleaned. And when they urinate, it goes into the carpet and soaks the floor and it stinks real bad. #3 Some dogs will fight with others, especially if they are the same sex. They are trying to decide who is going to be boss of the pack. #4 Pups will likely chew on just about everything, they need a puppy sitter during the day when you are gone at school or work. I think you should check out a website that tells about animals and all the work it takes to raise them. It costs money also, so be prepared! Good luck with the hunt for a dog.

1. They dont get sick often, IF you keep them healthy
2. im not sure, just make sure you take them out of the house every so often to make sure if they need to go, and keep a few doggy potty train pads out when you are at school
3.it depends on its personality
4.I would keep it in a cage during school with toys you never know, it also depends on their personality
Other, play with your dog everyday, reward them, keep them healthy, mainly you just got to give them love, to keep their attention to teach them.

Dachshunds don't get sick any more often than other dogs, it'll take maybe 2 months to potty train them, depending on the nature of the dog they may fight with others, and all puppies chew so buy a crate.
Don't buy it at a pet store, buy one from a breeder. You don't know what kind of diseases they could get or what kind of history they have, and 15 minutes in a small room probably doesn't tell you enough about it's nature. If you do buy this dog, beware.

I agree with the rest. DO NOT buy from a pet store. They do tend to get sick more often than others and are way higher priced. If you want a purebreed look for a breeder. Why not adopt from a local animal shelter. They check out their dogs very well, have all the shots and will pay to spay/or neuter them when old enough to do so.
I would keep the dog in a kennell since nobody will be home all day to train it. Puppies ALL chew when little. They are like babies teething. Provide it with a FEW good chew toys in the cage and some water and food.
Potty training takes about 2-3 weeks. The more you work with the dog, the faster it will learn. When toilet trainig ANY dog, DO NOT take it out for any reasaon except to go to potty. It will become confused whether it is out to play or go potty. AFTER it has been completely potty trained, THEN you can go out to play and walk with it for leasure fun. A pup will move it's bowels about 6 hrs. after feeding. If you can, limit it to only food and water at certain times to insure a kind of schedule of when it may go. AFTER is has learned, you can offer food and water all the time. This is NOT cruel. It will help immensly. Offer it about 4 times a day for about half an hr each time. then remove it till next time.
I took one of my dogs to obedience school(they train YOU to train the dog) From then on, it was a breeze to train the rest I acquired over the yrs.
IF you do notice the dog trying to go in the house, QUICKLY get it outside to go. A dog will stop going if startled. (I used a soda can filed with small rocks...just about 6-8...enough to rattle and make noise) throw it at the dog(don't hit the dog) and scoop it up and get outside quickly to finish. PRAISE the dog lavishly for having gone outside and then take it right back in the house. If they do go in the house and you see it happenning, say."bad *****whatever it's name is. A dog doesn't know 10 minutes later what you are scolding it for. You MUST scold it in the act of doing something wrong to teach. Same with chewing. NEVER let a dog chew on old shoes or anything else you don't want it to chew when it gets to be adult. If you let it do it when it is small, you will NOT break it from doing it later in life.

Well, first DO NOT BUY A puppy from a pet store!! If you want one, buy from a reputable breeder. Second, do you mean a miniature dachshund, like a weiner dog? They are great dogs, will get along with the beagle if the beagle will get along with it. Potty training takes time and work. All puppies chew things and the longer they are home by themselves, the more they will chew. They get bored and plus with the teething all they do is chew.

Like the above answerers, I must warn you against getting any dog from a pet store. Usually these are overpriced, may be from puppy mills (if you don't know about puppy mills, check the web--you'll be shocked) etc. You are asking for trouble!
If your folks are willing to pay for a purebred, take the time to find a reputable breeder in your area. A reputable breeder is one who invests serious time and money in breeding. They usually only breed two or three litters per year, the pups are usually sold with health guarantees, the breeder usually shows their dogs in conformation (typical dog show) and/or obedience or other doggie sports, and the breeder will ask you and your family many questions about your household to see if their breed is right for you.
Another option is to visit your local shelter. There are many dogs and puppies waiting for a home. Many of them are already trained or at least partially trained which will allow you to skip some of the puppy craziness!
To answer some of your q's about mini Dachschunds in particular: They are a pretty healthy breed, but they can have problems with their long backs. Do not allow them to become overweight and be careful with them jumping on/off furniture etc. They are smart but can be stubborn. My in-laws' Dachsie was very quick to housebreak though. I don't believe they're particularly dog-aggressive, but not sure about that. I know they can be very territorial and may like to chase small animals like cats. (These are just generalizations, every dog is different)
Any puppy will chew on things, that's just puppy behavior. The key is to crate train or at least limit the space they have while they are learning what they can and can't do in your home, and have plenty of puppy-safe toys for them.
Good luck and I hope you find your perfect puppy!

Please do not get a pet from a pet store as they are mainly from puppy mills, I don't care how sweet the dog may have been, that SPCA or a humane society is your BEST bet and you don't potty train a puppy, you housebreak it, the best way to find out if it will get along with your beagle is to take your beagle with you and to keep them from chewing on the wrong kind of stuff is to get toys for them, same as what had to be done for your beagle.

PLEASE do not purchase a puppy from a pet shop..they come from puppy mills, were they keep the pups in unsanitary conditions with no interaction...It is very sad how they treat those pups...Most likely if you end up purchasing one from their you will have to deal with behavioral problmes down the road.. I know it is tempting when you see that adorable face but please go to a reputable breeder.! And I have never even heard of a Miniature Dixon..it must be some new breed...Do yourself a favor, and wait to get a pup from a breeder!
Hope I helped
