Don't use any liquids in a dogs ear other than rubbing alcohol.
Anything liquid can give a dog an ear infection but alcohol evaporates too quickly and is safe to use. Just put some on a cotton ball and clean as much of the ear as you can. The ear does not need to be cleaned any deeper than you can get a cotton ball.

I just got done doing my dogs ears 1 minute ago. Best way is to do an eaqual 50/50 mix of warm water and hydrogen peroxide. Get it in the canal, then massage the ear when the mix is in for 1 minute. Then tip the dogs head on to a towel or paper towel. Then lightly, scrub the inner ear with a paper towel, q-tip, or towel. Finally, let the dog go afterwards so he/she can shake out the remainder of mix. Don't let the dog outside or in any place with cold temps or dirt for an hour afterwards. I use a syringe plunger to make the mix up. Do for abou 5 straight days and this should clear up any infection.

Just use a LITTLE alcohol on a gauze pad or paper towel. Moisten towel SLIGHTLY (like one of those little square things they use to wipe you when they draw blood or give a shot) and clean them out. Be careful not to go too deep as you may damage eardrum.
My Golden Retreiver used to get ear wax build up all the time. Looked black and nasty and that's what I used to do for yrs. for her. If you have never cleaned them before you may want someone to show you first to know how deep you can go. You can actually go pretty far. If the dog is small, you can use a q-tip, but since my dog had big ears, I used the papertowels and those alcvohol pads when I had some.

My dog recently had an ear infection. The vet sold me Ozyfresh Ear cleaner. You pour it in the dogs canal and kinda swish it around the ear. You then wipe it clean with a cotton ball. I am sure you love you dog, so only use something you know for sure is safe..

first you need to take your dog to the vet and see why the ears are dirty. if it's an infection the home remedy will only make it worse. the vet can tell you what meds or cheap cleansing solution that will be safe to use.

Rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth, and then dont dig deep. Just wipe out what you can see, never ever poke around in there.
Never use a q-tip either. The rubbing alcohol evaporates, that's the only thing I would use.
