What this actually sounds like is that your way to cope with stressful emotions is to eat. I can't tell by what you said if you are Bipolar or Depressed. Try starting some therapy. A good therapist will explore your issues with you on why you eat when you are upset. If you discover that there is more to it and you suspect that you might have either Bipolar or Depression, your therapist should be able to give info on these for you as well as recommend a good psychiatrist to go to to diagnose you. Good luck!

Biopolar is life long, is VERY difficult to diagnose, and there are 2 different types of bipolar. Bipolar 1 is what you hear most about & consists of the cycling between highs & lows. The time between can vary from cycle to cycle.
The only way to know if you are bipolar is to seek professional help. Even then, it is very hard to diagnose and can take months to diagnose. People who are bipolar usually don't know it, it's the family/friends who help with the diagnosis.
But from what you have provided...sounds like depression. Seek professional help for an accurate diagnosis.

bipolar also includes mania, that doesn't really sound like mania but i wouldn't know. mania is like, euphoria, inflated self-esteem, impulsivity, and people-seeking/increased libido. depression's effects can include a change in appetite, either eating more or eating less. insomnia is a symptom of both, hypersomnia (sleeping more) is only symptomatic of depression, but if you don't have this symptom that doesn't mean you're not depressed. if you feel sad/hopeless/helpless/guilty most or much of the time, or often feel like crying for no apparent reason you're probably depressed.

being bipolar vs. having depression is very similar, but even doctors have a hard time saying exactly what you have or what you are.
just try to exercise more, and do yoga or do something calming to relax your mind, and your sadness and angry moods might subside...
if they dont, go to doc and get an anxiety drug, like xanax, to help these feelings... or something else that they think is appropriate
ask a lot of questions... but you can get help

simply put, your just stressed out, it could be depression but you need to see a psychiatrist to be diagnosed. they can treat it with lithium. i have bipolar disorder-commonly known as manic depression. what happens with that is you get complete out of control happy and euphoric, then you crash and become immensely depressed. either way both are treatable. as for the weight gain, its just a side effect of depression, stress makes the body retain fat, especially when you eat in access. you just have to break the cycle. its a habitual thing

Bipolar is when you are happy one moment, and then extremely sad the next; almost like a rollercoaster of emotion. Depression is just extreme sadness due to chemical inbalance or certain events that happen over periods of time that can lead to depression.
