Make a sandwich with whole wheat bread, a low-fat meat (97% ff ham) and some mustard.
A piece of fruit and maybe some baked chips. Also bring some baby carrots or other raw veggie. A bottle of water or a carton of milk is a good beverage.
If you want to deal with a thermos - consider some low-fat soups or make your own soup (taste better, are healthier and cheaper).
Do you really have access to microwaves in the lunchroom?

Yes, very simple if you read your ingredients on the food labels. Simply avoid anything that contains MSG, high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oil. These 3 are in so much of our food and the damages are endless from them. MSG is the worst since it is an addictive substance for food. That is something we can all do without. I can't get into it all, but I quit after reading enough about them. Safe foods are veggies and fruits, proteins and bakery breads are safe.
As far as what to pack, the choices will be clear once your quit these chemicals. There isn't a whole lot to choose from that doesn't have these chemicals in it. The only foods I can find are fruits and veggies, real meat for protein and Skippy has a peanut butter called natural with no hydrogenated oil. Most bakery breads don't have corn syrup. I go as far as making my own chicken soup the night before to bring to work since there is no soup on the market that doesn't have MSG. It's a tough battle, but it can be done! I have included a link on MSG and HFCS.

Peanut butter sandwiches. Yum. I love haing burritos, just get a tortilla, add some cheese, salsa, veggies and whatever else you want! Also, there are lots of microwavable lunches like Chef Boyardee, and Michellengie's or something. They make really good pasta! I also like microwavable soups. Other ideas:
Salad with sauce in another container
Sushi
Sandwiches
Instant noodles
Apples
Cake
Pizza pops
Tater Tots

Buy a big bag of salad greens, some salad veggies, and dressing. Grill up some chicken, and have a fresh salad. Cheaper and healthier than what they offer in school lunchrooms. Your choice of low fat/fat free dressings, cheese, you name it.
Although you probably have a salad bar at school, think of the cost savings. The salad bar at my job is *ONLY* $.28/oz - which works out to be about $4.50/lb! It's not that hard to have a salad that weighs more than 1lb, by the time you add the chicken, dressing... It adds up fast!

choose something like chicken, some steamed veggies and just heat it up in the microwaves. im more prone to thinking healthier at night when im cooking dinner so maybe you can have healthy leftovers reheated.
