to be mean, maybe your friend is jealous of you or insecure around you.

Well maybe it was a joke,
But really not something i would say to a FRIEND.
I wouldnt really call that person a friend at all.
Sure you can joke around with friends, but getting the waitress to say it takes it from joke to rude.

At least you know what your friend is like now.

Sounds like someone thinks they are very funny or they are very mad at you and trying to get some real revenge it seems to obvious if you found out that they paid the waitress to do it. A real error would have never happened this way it's too suspicious and I would decline a dinner offer from this person.

There are possibilities:

a. Your friend has poor sense of humor but didn't intend to hurt you

b. Your friend is forgetful and thought you were really 51, and thought that paying someone else to greet you was sweet

c. Your friend is really not your friend and just wants to embarrass/humiliate you

d. The waitress forgot what she was supposed to say

e. The waitress doesn't like you

f. You're really showin' yer gettin' old...

I am more interested in how you handled the situation when the waitress said it, and how you handled yourself after your "friend" revealed the truth. Hopefully if you were still in the restaurant you were able to commiserate in some way with the waitress who is as much a dupe as you are and surely embarassed as well.

Maybe as a joke. Or the waitress got the line wrong.

Your friend has a sense of humour designed for self amusement only.

Your friend also has no respect for the dignity of the employee of the restaurant. You could have been insulted enough to speak to the server's manager and then she would have been in trouble for being rude.

Your friend, come to think of it, isn't really a friend after all.

That is a very cruel and hurtful thing to do. And that person who did that is not really a friend, if they engage themselves in that type of inconsiderate humor. I hope they paid for your lunch at least, and I would have thrown the birthday cake in their face!

If you are certain that your friend did this you should ask for an explanation. I would not consider someone who did such a thing a friend. With a friend like this, who needs enemies!

Ask the waitress when she's expecting.

Not really your friend?

Confused?

Waitress got her line wrong?
