Pros: Labs are wonderful, sweet and fun loving dogs. They usually have a very good temperament and are good with children.
Cons: Labs are very active. If you do not have an active lifestyle this is not the dog for you. They need daily walks and lots of play time. If you don't give them the exercise they need, they will find something to entertain themselves and can be very destructive.

There's no official breed known as a miniature labrador. A labrador is a labrador. Some are just smaller than the breed standard.

I currently have a year-old lab and have also lived in homes that had one, two or three labs at a time (all living indoors!) I also spend a lot of time with my in-laws who raise labs and currently have 5. I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with them. They are very intelligent animals and respond very well to training, especially if you start at a young age. They are very loving and devoted dogs also and seem to have a need to please their owners. They do have a lot of energy usually and need a lot of attention and exercise, and most labs love to be in the water.
My lab lives indoors and sometimes he's a handful but usually only when he first wakes up or when I get home from work/school, but thankfully we have a big backyard for him to run around in to work off some of his energy.
The only con that I would have is that labs are more prone to skin problems. Mine has pretty bad skin allergies and scratches a lot, which gets frustrating.
I would definitely recommend getting a lab.

I absolutely love my English yellow lab, but he's kind of a nut. He's 10 months old and can rip anything to shreds in a few mere moments. (We've learned to keep him supplied with LOTS of rawhides.) I've had dogs in the past though that used to destroy stuff as puppies, so I'm hoping that he grows out if it. Labs are known for shedding, and they keep that puppy mentality for 2 or 3 years. My fiance also thinks that he's a crappy guard dog. (If anyone came to the house, he'd probably just lick them to death.) I wasn't looking to get a rough-tough, mean dog though. They're very happy-go-lucky and are full of energy. They're smart too and learn things fast. Keep doing some more research and see if the lab would fit into your lifestyle and family. Also, find a reputable breeder. My puppy came from Keepsake Labs (www.keepsakelabs.com) in PA.

Pros - very playful, great with kids, enjoys the outdoors and water very much, loves to play with other dogs, loyal, feel as if they are human and part of the family, very smart, loves traveling with the family, plays fetch for hours, easily trained but have to stay consistent with it.
Cons - Chew everything up (need a lot of supplies for this habit), ear and hip problems. May wander or dig.
Hope this helps!!

Labs are fabulous..no doubt. They are active, loving, loyal, friendly, compassionate animals.Great with kids, usually have great temperment, great with elders as well, used us service dogs for the blind and other disabilities, used for hunting birds, fun to play fetch with, love lots of attention and room to roam(large fenced yard ok). The only con I can think of is there are so many labs available, I would hope you would get one from a Labrador rescue site, or your local pound, ASPCA, or from a family that needs to let one go.Good luck in your search and enjoy your new pet.Treat him right...........he'll return the favor.

the pros they are they are one of the most loyal dogs, they are easy to train, they are adorable, and they love water so if you live on a lake or go swimming frequently then this would make the perfect pet, the only cons that i can think of is they can be a little hyper the first couple years and they need to get their energy out so it helps if you have a backyard for it to run around in

Labs are the best I have 2. they are playful, yet loyal and protective. they are EASY to train and they are the most "puppy-like" well into adult hood. it takes about 4 years for them to calm down and realize that they are not a tiny puppy anymore. Labs will win you over like no other breed.
