A woman died as the result of an ill conceived radio competition. I believe that those that hosted this competition, putting families at risk and should be held accountable for the death of the woman, as negligence resulting in manslaughter -- As their actions contributed in a major way, to the death of this mother of three.
Extract :
SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- A woman who competed in a radio station's contest to see how much water she could drink without going to the bathroom died of water intoxication, the coroner's office said Saturday. “

It appears that the competition may not have been approved by Nintendo or any government body? (Thanks for responses so far). However, people would assume if the competition was using the Nintendo name that represents Nintendo (As I did).
ten people have been fired from Sacramento's KDND 107.9, including several on-air personalities. The names of all ten have not been released, but it seems the parent company, Entercom/Sacremento.
A nurse called into the show to inform the disc jockeys and contestants that what they were doing was dangerous.

I don't think that they will be charged with manslaughter, however they may face some other charges and if they are charged with something related to her death it would most likely be negligent homicide. As they did not physically kill her however their actions did result in her death.
The woman complained while doing this competition of pain in her stomach and in her head however she continued to drink the water, something she should have stopped doing knowing the risk, which she said before the competition that she had research online the risks of drinking so much water in very little time. The D.J.'s also should have stopped her and removed her from the competition when she began to complain about these pains, in fear of her safety.
However like I said I'm not sure if any charges will be brought against the D.J.'s or the radio station (the police department has began a criminal investigation into the event), personally I don't think any should. However they will face a civil suit which I'm 100% certain they will lose.

i think the contestants signed a release so they cannot sue civily, as they should not- it was their option, they were not forced to drink. people enter food eatign or beer drinking contests this is nto healhty, but it is their decision. they shoudl not be charged with anything. thats the problem in this country, people wnat to sue and blame others instead of puittign the blame on themselves..she shoudl ahve paid $50 dollars for the tickets she won

Nintendo had nothing to do with it.
But yes, the radio station should at the very least be charged with criminal negligence causing death.

There's no criminal charge here.
There is, however, considerable civil liability. The deceased did sign a waiver; however, all that signifies is that the radio station was aware of the danger.

The herd thins itself out.
If it wasn't water chugging, it may have been other less savory fluids.
This woman chose to humiliate herself for a toy.
Should she have even had children in the first place?

I don't think so. People have to use common sense when they enter contests like that. They have to think about what the risks are to themselves but they tend to let greed override good judgement.
