Unless your friend stated that they expected you to pay them back, then I would say that it's a gift---

That should have been settled at the time that she gave you the money. Were you honest with her and tell her that you did not need it? Pay her back if she asks you. Is it worth loosing a friend over? She was being kind. Return the kindness. It never pays to burn bridges. Some day you need her and she may not be there for you. She sounds like a good person

Techinically no...you shouldn't have to pay the money back because it, from the sounds of it, was a gift. However, if she keeps hinting just be up from her and ask. She may have thought of it as a loan and if this is the case you'll need to ask yourself which is more important the money or the friendship.

The details should have all been discussed at the time that the money was offered. I see this situation all the ttime on tv judge shows. It should have been stated whether it was a loan or a gift. How much do you value this person's friendship? It just might hang in the balance!

If you didn't need the money, and she didn't say she was loaning you the money than it should of been a gift but I think you should ask her if she wants the money back since she seems to be hinting.

While it sounds you are under no obligation to repay, it would be the friendly thing to do, a gift in return never hurts, but do not give expecting more than a thank you

the first time you took the money, you should have emphasized that you dont know when you will be able to pay her back and if that is going to be a problem, then you graciously thank her and decline the offering.

If it was given freely...not really..but it would show you are honorable if you attempt to pay it back...even if it's a few dollors at a time.....or when your able....... take your freind out for good time.
Either way it's best not to lose freinds who are willing to help...no questions asked.

If someone GAVE me money in hardtimes, I would pay them back whether or not it was a loan. It's morally right to do so. At least offer it back to them.

You need to pay her back, she was helping you out in a time of need....now be appreciative and re-pay her.
