Its not because I dont love her but I find this day to be sickening because of the marketing. How do I address this with the girl I love?

i just hate it i dont know why but i do. i asked my boyfriend if we could skip it and he said no. but then agreed to yes after i begged him
if she knows you love her then it shouldnt be that big of deal

Celebrate by not buying anything for each other. Make her a candlelit dinner instead. However, some girls expect (and deserve, if you love her) flowers on Valentine's day. If you're morally opposed to buying roses (as everyone else in the USA is), then consider finding out what her favorite flower is, or making a bouquet of wildflowers. Unique, but beautiful. Don't be opposed to celebrating, but be opposed to breaking the bank over it. Just tell her how you feel about it, and come up with a plan that's acceptable to your moral position, and that also fulfills her valentine's day needs (because us girls have them, trust me).

Valentine's Day has become as bad as Christmas. there seems to be subtle pressure to bring your relationship to the next level. You have to get just the right gift.... it sucks. Me and my fiance agree on this and so we spend a nice night at home and hire a chef to feed us.

if you love her. you can either swallow it and make it a wonderful day for her, because you love her. that would actually be really special if you tell her you dont believe in it and then do it just for her. maybe not even spend lots of money. just look after her for the day. if you cant do that, tell her that you still love her but it's not your thing, see what she says
