Are you getting full dentures or partial dentures?
Upper Full dentures usually work great due to a large surface area and good suction. Lower dentures are the bane of all wearers and dentists. That being said, if you can save some of your lower teeth and use them to anchor a partial denture you will be much happier. Denture are able to create about 25% of the force of nature teeth so chewing will be a problem too. However, if it's your last alternative, they will work. On the plus side, dentures have turned peoples lives around. I've taken some sad sad people and given them dentures and turned their lives around. They gain self-esteem, chewing function, and loss of pain (from terrible, painful, natural teeth)
That being said, it takes awhile to get used to your new teeth. (Really) Don't even whine the first month. Your cheeks, your tongue, and your new teeth all need to learn to work together. Start slowly, eat soft foods like eggs, potatos, etc. Also, read the newspaper aloud as much as possible to get your mouth used to working together. Best of luck! -Dr. J, DDS

Well first off, use adhesives only if you have to, its a quick fix for an bad fitting denture ( I haven't used any adhesives on my dentures) Cleaners, just use whatever brand you prefer, and talking and eating, all I can say is practice practice practice. And most important, keep a positive outlook on things, these are not your normal teeth, so just be patient, it can be frustrating sometimes. Good Luck.

I have heard and read that talking is difficult in the beginning and that you should read out loud softly to see what words are most difficult for you.
Fixodent Free is supposed to be the best adhesive...
Eating is kind of like learning to eat all over again kind of trial and error type thing..the only gum you can chew is Freedent, it won't stick to the dentures...Cleaners..Efferdent..
they also make denture tooth pastes and brushes..
hope this helps..

My husband has dentures in the top and a bottom partial which he never wears. My advice to you is to make up your mind that you are going to wear them and like it. He uses Fixodent cream and the powder is also good. Efferdent is a good cleaner that he soaks them in each night. At first you may sound different when you talk, but then it's okay. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
