Today in Greece, modern paganists gathered to honor Zeus. Unlike other religions based on decrees and dogmas, they believe in freedom of thought...Their message is world peace and an ecological way of life in which everyone has the right to education

That's cool about the modern Greeks.

I don't think that being Pagan is the answer to all the world's ills, if that's what you mean. Many Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, etc. believe in world peace and an ecological way of life. The problem arises from the zealots that want to push their way of thinking on others and persecute them for not "playing along." You should try attending a Unitarian Universalist service some time; it's a good example of many religions getting along.

Paganism or Infidelism is a matter of relativity. One person's zealot is another's devil. Ancient Greek religion was built the same way as a snowball rolling down a hill keeps getting larger. Greek City States each had a primary god and as the conquered each other they assimilated the vanquished cities god or gods rolling them into the royal family of gods. Big cities got important gods that were brothers or sisters of Zeus. Old civilizations got the older gods and Titans. Small places got minor gods or demi-gods. It was a way to make everyone happy and conquered lands could maintain their primary religion only incorporated into a broader family. The Greeks and ecology don't go well together. It was the ancient Greeks who chopped down all the forests of Greece and resulted in the sparsely vegetated landscape of today.

Not all pagans follow the Greek gods but I certainly do appreciate the spirit of your message. Yes, for the most part pagans are peaceful, accepting individuals. We believe in personal freedoms and responsibility. 'Course there are irritating pagans just like there's irritating "everyone elses".

Is it the philosophy of the 21st century? I don't think so. That would require groups and individuals to stand up and shout and sutff which isn't generally the pagan way.

Zimmi

Hell, I think it would be nice to see temples to Aphrodite or to Zeus, instead of the same old churches you see on every corner. Maybe people wouldn't be so hell-bent on forcing their religion on everyone and wouldn't be so up-tight if they prayed to the Goddess of Love. ;-)

I do not think everyone ought to worship the Greek Gods though. Personally I worship the Norse Gods. But I have to agree the Old Gods are a lot more nicer and more friendly then the monotheistic one, not to mention polytheism makes more sense them monotheism. Everyone should be free to worship whatever God they please or no Gods at all. I think the world would be more tolerant that's for sure.

Personally I think we are entering or heading in the direction of entering the age of Animism (modern animism of course). History repeats itself. Animism is where it all started (after atheism that is). Animism is a mix between spirtualism and atheism/materialism. It is Paganism. It is the seed of all religions.

They're called Pagans, not Paganists. Sorry, I had to correct you.

If that's they're message, then they sound like a good group of people.

I think that's still a Greek god, not a pagan one. Besides, that's old. I think we can spread positive messages without the need to call on a god to do it.

It could be, but I think the one world religion, which we are heading to will be an all encompassing, tolerant type, accepting anything But Christianity.

More power to them. They have the right to believe what they want and the Christian Orthodox Church doesn't have a right to prohibit them from worshipping whoever they want to worship. I like their message.

It'd be a step closer to rationality, at least.

I'm a pagan-type.
