My uncle is Alwyn Dixon. Until he moved to Thailand he was the highest trained instructor of KM in Europe.. He's back living in Malta now so I suppose he may well be again, although he's not training/teaching at the moment.. My aunt is though - Soo Dixon. She was second only to him so I suppose it's her now. It's such an amazing art and yet barely anyone has ever heard of it... Has anyone here? Or better yet, does anyone DO it?

No I didn't come on to brag about my uncle - I mentioned him 'cause I wondered if anyone might know him... Lord.
And of all the people I've spoken to in the 'real' world, only 2 had ever heard of it! and yes, a lot of them were real MA nuts! How am I supposed to know if people on here would have? Tis why I asked!! No need to be nasty, just a flipping question. Jeez, who put a bug up your a.ss today?

You hit the nail on the head? About what? I reacted to your accusing me of being slow and bragging, when actually I was trying to see how many people knew of it, and if by chance anyone had met my uncle in training. So really, you hit no nail. shrug.

I have been training in it for the past two and a half years, and am currently a level 4 student. It has become pretty popular in most big cities here in the US, probably on the same level as Mau Thai or Jui Jitsu, although it's not nearly as well known as the more traditional martial arts. It's effective stuff, with a good mix of standing and grappling techniques

I guess I haven't learned it officially, since there aren't any licensed Kapap / Krav Maga instructors nearby, however our self defense instructors have shamelessly copied a lot of techniques from IKMF promotional literature, videos and seminars.

From everything I've seen so far, it's very effective stuff. I'd expect no less from the Israeli Defense Forces, Security Forces ad police. They're as serious as it gets, when it comes to combaives.

I am familar with the style. It was developed for use by the Israeli military and law enforcement as I recall. While I have not studied it extensively, I have had some training in some of the techniques by a master from Israel named Mizrachi. I have fought agins someone using it when I fought professionsally a numberr of years ago and found it to be a highly effective combat system. When next he can return to the States I will continue my training in it.

As to your uncle the name is not familiar, but then I have been out of the loop for many years and there are many new names and faces that I am unfamiliar with these days.

Yeah, I've heard of Krav Maga since the late 90's dude.

especially when it used to be called Kapap, but now it's become it's own discipline apart from Kapap

wish I could find a local school to train in it myself to add to my fighting arsenal already, but unfortunately there aren't any in my area. At least not close enough to drive to train on a regular basis

And no unfortunately, I haven't heard of your uncle or your aunt, sorry.

and don't worry about the knucklehead that posted just before I did, he needs to go back to suckin' off his crackpipe more often and keep losin braincells instead of TRYING to spell or put together an intelligent posting.

I've heard of it and taken a sample class of it here is Mississippi but it was mixed with Jeet Kune Do. The instructor was an ex-military speical ops dude and wanted to train others to defend themselves but the school closed due to not enough students.

I've heard of this years ago and have always wanted to study it. There's a school here in the Philippines but now that I have the money to finance my studies, I don't have the time. It's because I'm always sent out overseas for my job.

Oh well... c'est la vie... When you have the time, you don't have the money. When you have the money, you don't have the time...

I've heard of the style and even seen some of the demonstrations. It looks like it could be effective and is easily taught.

Yes, I've heard of it. I don't practice it but my friend does and he's really good at it. Watched him get into a fight in a bar and destroyed the other guy. Broke his limbs actually. Think its a really interesting martial art that has a really good real life application. (No duh, invented by Israeli military).
