Lumber is not measured in 1/8 " and it is over 1", so 4/4 = 1", and 5/4 = 1 1/8"

4/4, 5/4 6/4 8/4 are the actual dimentions that rough sawn lumber will clean up to. dimentional lumber is smaller than the called out dimention. A 1X board is actualy only 3/4" thick. A 2X4 is only 1 1/2" X 3 1/2".

Must be the new math... last time I checked 5/4 was 1 1/4 inch. Quarters are usually used for rough cut lumber. Sawyers usually cut lumber in quarters. 5/4 rough cut lumber is supposed to plane out to a full 1 inch thickness. 4/4 lumber is supposed to plane out at 3/4 inch..... and so on.
