Yes, and here's why...
First of all, infection of course.
Second, the broken part of the needle will migrate to other parts of the body, including the heart, and eventually could cause a heart attack and death.
Seek "immediate" medical attention where an X-Ray will be required to show the exact location of the broken needle before it can be removed.
While the broken part is still in the vein is why you should act "now", if you wait longer it could migrate to an area of the body where it can not be reached without major surgery...or worse, when it's simply "too late".

Yes, you should always seek medical attention, especially a needle being broke off in your arm. I hope it wasn't a needle used for drugs??

Absolutely!! If the person is doing IV drugs, that needle piece will travel through the circulatory system and cause a stroke or possible death. That is a medical emergency.

Yes. A broken needle embedded under the skin can become infected and if the infection is severe enough, it can spread and cause sepsis. You can actually die from a foreign body if it is left in long enough.

definitely! its a foreign object.. it can cause infection.. if it lodges in a muscle thats a good thing because it can easily be removed (by a surgeon of course).. but if it breaks off in a vein, that's dangerous.. veins go directly to the heart and that will cause serious damage!! and even before it reaches the heart, it can cause damage to whatever path it's taking..

common sense tells me this is no legal drug she/he is using. take him/her to the er. Be a good friend and turn your friend in to the cops. The hospital has to turn this in because its illegal but if you turn her/him in first they might go easy on your friend. But then my next question is where you shot up with your friend. I know its not insulin because I have 4 family members who use insulin and it does not go in the arm.
