What's your definition of "doesn't consume much gas," and "big nice car??" Do you want a hybrid? There's the Camry and Accord. Because my answer is....whatever you can afford.

Look at the Nissan Altima or Chevy Impala. We have an 04 Impala that we consistently get 31 mpg on the highway. That's for an 1800 mile trip, twice a year. The trunk is huge, it's a safe car and rides nice. We have the LS model which has the old reliable GM 3800 V6.

I think the Buick Century is an OVERLOOKED car ! my 2002 gives me 29.7 mpg on trips with the cruise set at 65 mph. its comfy, has a big trunk and does a little better around town on gas then the 3800 series V6. And they can be had for cheap. look into the 98-02 range and there are still some senior citizen low mileage cars out there. DO NOT BUY A RENTAL OR CORPORATE LEASE ! BEWARE !!! these cars are us ally driven rough. Also, don't be afraid to shop out-of-state either.

I just purchased a new 2006 Mercury Grand Marqis it was used with 10K miles, leather and all the bells and whistles you could want. The car has a V8, seats 6, rides like a dream and gets 18mpg in town and 26 on the highway...This is the nicest car I have ever owned. I would suggest taking one for a test drive....I am a die hard Dodge/Chrysler guy and I love this car...Best part is I have a 6 year warrenty on the car and paid 16K

You won't find a big car that doesn't consume much gas. Your best bet is to go for a Chevy Impala or Pontiac Grand Prix with a V6 4.3 Vortec engine, they get pretty good gas mileage.

Ford Five Hundred or Mercury Montego. They are very spacious and good on gas.
If you go bigger than that I'd say the Lincoln Town Car. Spacious, luxurious, good on gas, and better power with the V8. There are some super incentives on them right now so it would be a steal.

The only one out there is Mercedes deisel. You can get in the upper 30's on the highway and it is just as quick as the gas engine models.
