If you gave the last one at 5 pm, I would give him the next dose at 5 am. You may have to make yourself get up early, but I would think that it is best for the medication to say fairly constant.

Whenever possible with Phenobarbitral you want to keep the doses 12 hours apart. You also should not give more than the prescribed dosage as over-dosing can have severe, negative symptoms.

If it seems as if the dose is not controlling the seizures, then you should discuss it with your vet. If at all possible, I would make yourself a chart where you can record the date and time of each seizure and duration. This will help you and your veterinarian adjust the dosage in the future- obviously you can only record what is there. Ideally, the phenobarb should keep him from having any but that also depends on the cause of the seizures.

I would try to get the dog on a schedule for taking his meds close to your schedule. Like 6am & 6pm or 7am & 7pm. Yes it should be given every twelve hours. I have a dog that has been phenobarbitol for almost a year now and has been doing fine. She takes 60mg. twice a day. Good luck with your dog.
