I went out to Nebraska for fall turkey hunting. I somehow bagged my bird on the 2nd day of the trip, so my buddy and I decided to go walk some old railroad tracks for Pheasant. While walking and awaiting the heart stopping cackle of a rooster, we were suddenly taken off gaurd by what sounded like machine guns firing all around us. I quickly realized that the sound was the beating wings of quail. We shouldered our arms and attempted to take aim as the unexpected covey of Saturn Missles shot out of the brush. As soon as you could get a bead on one, it would make a 90degree turn leaving your pellets to hit nothing but air. We ended up bagging 6 as we continued walking. This was my first experience with Bobwhite and I will never forget it. The sound of there wings when they flush rates right up there with the heart stopping cackle of a pheasant.

I"ve been quail hunting, many times. I was located out in a pasture when I was hunting. I went a couple times, this year, but I only got a couple birds. I don't think I have ever had a "bad" experience while I was quail hunting. The dog did eat one of my birds, this year, but he's since been broke from doing that. I think you want to know what state I'm in, and I'm in Kansas.

I used to quail hunt in Texas just a ways north of Abilene. I loved it. My wife's uncle had a couple of good pointers and they were a joy to hunt over. Quail is the first thing my wife ever hunted and she too loved it. We have a lot of good memories hunting together for quail.

Living much farther north we hunt pheasant these days.

Good luck!

Yes, I've hunted quail in South Texas on my own land. It is located in Brooks County and yes, it was a good, fun experience. Of course, we didn't have any 'politicos' around. LOL!

My dad and I used to hunt Quail years ago when we lived in Phoenix. We'd go out in the desert and hunt most of the day. We loved it. Nice bird to hunt. It was alot easier than hunting Doves. Lots of fun.
