Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my girl? She's been going around the house all day and gathering stuffed animals. She made some sort of nest thing in the dirty laundry hamper and seems to think these things are puppies. She does this every once in a while and the vet says not to worry, but she's getting aggresive with people who enter the room she's in.

She is probably going through a false pregnancy, which is fairly common. She is claiming the stuffed animals as her puppies and going through all of the behaviors as if she had a litter of real puppies. They usually occur about 9 weeks after her last heat cycle, but they can occur even if the dog has be spayed (mainly because some of the ovarian tissue has been left behind). I have heard of putting them on a medication to treat it, but I really think that it is better for the dog to just let it run its course.

False Pregnancy. It happened to my Shih Tzu and it was a hormone imbalanced that made her feel like she was pregnant. I took my dog to the vet and he prescribed some hormones that got her back to normal. They get aggresive because they treat the stuffed animals as their puppies and they are just trying to protect them.

Sounds like she going through false pregnancy. If she isn't spayed have her spayed that should take care of the problem. If she is spayed and having this problem I do not know what to tell you except find a new vet that can help you.

My old dog (male) used to so that when he was feeling ignored. He knew he wasn't supposed to touch the stuffed animals, but when he wanted attention that's what he would do.

The soft toys are her playmates and she is protecting them. That's normal.
