salt helps lower the boiling point, thus the water boils a bit faster

it would depend on the volume (amount) of water, of course! A tablespoon of water will boil much more quickly on a gas stove (or electric stove) than a cup of water obviously. Also, it would depend on how high the heat is. Make sure your sister always uses the same amount of heat ('high') and the same amount of water. Make sure she also keeps track of the amounts of each ingredient used. For fun, she might want to see which does it faster..gas or electric.

The ingredients won'tmake much difference in the time it takes to reach a boil. It depends mainly on the BTU output of your stove's burners and the amount of water in the pan. You have to keep the BTUs, the pan/pot you use and the volume of water consistent in each test for the results to mean anything.

There are too many variables. Gas will make water boil faster, depending on how high the flame is AND the quality of the pot you are using AND how much water is in the pot. Heavy guage pans will boil water faster than lightweight pans. Make sure they take all these factors to note.

Since I would like to help (but I don't feel like going to the kitchen to try the experiment myself), I suggest that your daughter and her friend should do all experiments on both; electric and gas stove and see if it actually makes a difference!
This way, they can add another twist and hopefully more points to their science project!!!

It boils faster the closer to sea level that you are, slower the higher you are.

A watched pot never boils, so that's why no one knows the real answer.
