I had testicular cancer. The surgery did not take long. I was in and out of the hospital on the day of the surgery. I was put to sleep for the surgery. After the surgery, I slept in a room until I woke up. I was very groggy. Once I was able to get food in me they let me go home.
After I got home, I went into the bathroom and saw the doctor's work for the first time. I don't remember it being painful, just very tender.
I don't know about artificial testicles. I believe so but never really considered it.

Cancer is caused by poor nutrition (including oxygen) and stressors. Stressors can be environmental, like heavy metals, food additives or pollution, or emotional or job stress.
Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body.
It takes a LONG time, usually, or an exrtaordinary amount of stressors, to degrade the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it can spread rapidly.
THIS IS IMPORTANT! There are ways to BEAT cancer that the AMA is keeping from the American public, that are being used in Europe and around the world. Here is some information that is getting hard to find--"The Cure for All Cancers", ISBN 0963632825; "A Cancer Therapy", ISBN 0882681052; "Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle", ISBN 1885236077; "The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium", ISBN 0533071410; and "Killing Cancer", ISBN 0705000966.
Type 'used books' into your browser and find a good site, then type in the ISBN numbers and get some great help cheap.
I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) after they went on a program of herbs and nutrition.
The American Medical Association and the pharmaceutical companies control medical law in this country, and they are in it for the money, and don't care about individuals. You and your family must look out for yourselves to stand a chance of being healthy.
This is not a joke. Look into it. Best of luck

Testical removal is called an Orchiectomy.
Recovery usually takes a week or so to feel good enough to go back to work, take a trip to the zoo etc. But you could be sensitive in the lower abdomen for up to a year because of the incision. Yes, you can get silicon implant testicles; however, you run the same risks from silicon poisening as females who get them for breast implants. Also, as a female, I wouldn't care if my husband had implants in or not. I would personally say don't get them--especailly if you are dealing with testicular cancer because you certainly wouldn't want to take on another health risk. I would think it would be only to a man's benefit if he were regularly in a gym situation where he might feel uncomfortable without them.

While everyone here at Y! Answers is probably really willing to help - there is an active forum for health questions like this! Everyone is really nice.
it is called: Healthboards.com
But I did some research for you, and well, my granfather had prostate cancer so:
Yes - you can get artificial testicles, that serve no purpose, but do make it appear more "normal"... There is some concern, but is possible.
As far as pain - no one had the same idea as pain, and I can't ask my grandfather, because he did not have them removed. Take care of it quick - we waited with my grandfather and now he has pancreatic cancer.
God bless.
