And I don’t if it’s just me, but I’ve also noticed in places like wikipedia, a slight condescension in references to Charles Darwin.

In the media in general, there's nothing subtle about it.

I haven't noticed in Wikipedia, but it wouldn't be surprising.

I do think that you're pointing out an interesting phenomenon. So many people think that beliefs in gods and ghosts and souls and magic and miracles and faith healing the like are perfectly reasonable, despite the complete absence of such things in real life. But if you watch TV or movies you routinely see what would be solid evidence for them - if they weren't fictional. Often it's even presented as non-fiction, but that hardly matters: when we see ghosts in fiction, we will become more likely to think that ghosts really exist.

I predict that if we were to have enough tv shows and movies portraying pink unicorns as though they were real, people would really start believing that they see pink unicorns.

Wow - some of your respondents think it goes the other way? That's obviously a "fish don't notice the water" phenomenon. Culture is _drenched_ in religion. American culture, at least, reinforces religious belief constantly. For example, after a disaster (hurricane, plane crash, etc.), and news reporters interview survivors, whoever does the editing typically sees fit to show the "we prayed and God saw us through" comments. "Inspirational stories" are almost always religious/supernatural.

Actually I notice just the opposite. All the sex and violence on TV and all the bad things that the news talks about. It is clear with what I see in the media that our nation is turning away from God.

I have noticed a little bit of nontraditional ideas in entertainment formats. I hope that it is a sign of better things to come.

If would help if you gave even one example of what you're referring to.

In general, since most people believe in god, it isn't out of line for the media to go along.

With all that sex and violence everyone is always talking about.

Yep, sounds religious to me.

Is that why the religious faction made it illegal for those under 17 to buy music, games and movies on DVD. To prevent them from "learning about religion" through the overtones of those movies and games RATED R.

Why shouldn't there be? If there can be blatant agnostic messages in eveything from Disney movies to chocolate commercials, why can't we have a subtle hint of religion from time to time?
