My best friend has a half sister, 4 yrs old, she believes there is a monster in her closet... I live in his with the family, and he tried to figure it out. He thinks it's the squeaky heater that hums funny, it isn't the main heat, it needs a new belt I think. anyway his sister thinks a monster's in there and under her bed. My best friend decided to 'get rid' of the monster... so he had his friend dress like a monster and sneak into her room while she was crying to me up stairs. His friend went into the closet and made noise and I brought her down stairs to her room. She said there was monster, she was half right this time. She wanted to go. Her brother came in and opened the closet and his friend jumped out. She screamed! Then her brother tackled the 'monster'... her brother took the monster outside, and had an eviction notcie for the monster to sign. It worked for a few months... but now she claims the monster is back!!! So now what should be down?

Tell her to get empty spray bottle with water in it. Make a label that says Monster Spray. Give it to the child and let her use it whenever she thinks that the monster is around. This worked for my kids. Good luck

we bought a big stuffed dog and every night my son shoved it under his bed to scare the monster away. With our second son that didnt work so we got air freshener and sprayed the closet and under the bed cuz everyone knows yucky monsters can not stand clean nice smelling rooms(got to keep his room clean too). A friend of mine made her little girl a monster eating troll doll and as long as she could sleep with it the monsters were scared and stayed away. Too most kids the monsters are real so making fun of her will just make it worse

I think that the monster spray is a good suggestion, also allow her to start to sleep with a nightlight on. Patience above all. No more dramatizing though, as that only feeds the myth and fears and has her believe that there is something to fear really there. Check with or for her, and stay a while in her room, maybe bedtime stories would be great, encourages reading and distracts from the latent fear.

put a little light in the closet and leave the door open or put a heavy bell on the doorknob and say if the monster is in there you will hear the bell (mayby even take the bell off from it) or plan a slumber-party and make it fun have the bigger people sleep in front of the open closet. kids will believe it till they don't so you have to be creative. tell the child we are here and the closet knows it it will never hurt you

dont explain to her.....let it run it's course.....i remember when i was afraid and my mom never tried to convince me that there wasn't a monster she just let it run it's course and i relized that i was still alive and that there isn't a monster......or have her brothers friend dress up like one again and this time have him come out with candy and games and toys and presents for her and let her get along with the monster.....then she wont be afraid!

Yes, let's see. If this helps, let her keep maybe a small lamp on and a night light. Or sometimes, but I don't recommend this, a bribe. Or, maybe you or your friend could sleep somewhere in her room with her and say that you'll protect her. After sleeping in her room, she should forget all about it. Shouldn't even be scared anymore.

Show her that there is nothing there. Keep the closet open and the bed cleaned out underneath so she can see with her own eyes that there is nothing there.
