depends on what you're calling "false". Children are born believing in God, its adults who teach that out of them.

Even if you are against religion, I'd bet that you're all for teaching kids about santa and the easter bunny, only to tell them later that the whole thing was a huge lie....so why is that acceptable but raising your child with beliefs, and morals, isnt acceptable?

No not really, because such a large part of life is religion, i dont see it to be like child abusing. Personally i am not religious, can't stand religious nuts and can definately see where your coming from. Rather then 'luring the young into false religions' i think it would be much better to educate the child about different belief systems with an open mind, and let the child make their own decision. In saying this, if that was your belief, but then filled your childs head with stories of santa, the toothfairy and the easter bunny, as most parents do, are you not being entirely hypocritical?

What's a false religion Midge? Wicca? Buddhism? Islam? How about Christianity? Who can know which religion is "false" and which teaches the "truth"? No one has proof of anything, therefore we could argue that ALL religions are false. The only right way to bring up our kids is to expose them to every religion, atheism also. Let them make up their own minds.

Child abuse? No. I believe that each family does the best they can, it's not abusive. But done the wrong way it can be very limiting.

I'm having a difficult time understanding your question. Are you asking if directing children to religion PERIOD is much like child abuse?

The Apostle Paul spoke of Timothy having learned the "truth from infancy" from his mother and grandmother. The Mosaic Law COMMANDED parents to teach their children the law.

Isn't not teaching them that they are accountable for their actions, that there is something greater than themselves, and instead letting them believe there is no sin except perhaps in their own mind, and thereby live a life of irresponsibility, much like child abuse.

Couldn't telling them they're related to that monkey they saw in the cage at the zoo perhaps be considered a form of child abuse?

When I was a xtian I taught my children what I thought was the best for them. That is what a loving parent should do. I wish that I had been able to see the truth back then. I wasted a lot of time on religion. My two sons are Agnostic and I am Atheist. We all came to the same conclusions within a close period of time. They did not know that I was leaning toward non belief and I did not know that they were.

I would also think that Luring the Young to become atheistic when we all know that there is a GOD should be against the law as a form of "child abuse" leading to eternal damnation. Have a great day.

this is why most Pagans wait untill a child is 13 or sometimes 16 before teaching them about the gods and the religion of our ancestors.
