Does anyone know how to turn the face recognizer on??? its not in the instructions.

It's defaulted on. Just point the camera at someone's face and you should see the white square box around the face.

I think some of these camera owner guides need an guide for the index. It can be almost impossible to look something up unless you try six different things that you THINK it might be under. With a feature that the advertise right on the box like "Face Recognition," don't you think they'd put "Face Recognition" in the index??? Thanks Petra.

I have also found that sometimes it is easier to find things by looking at the illutration near the front of the book. They point to this or that switch or button and tell you what it controls and what page to look for to learn about that feature.

Yes it's in the instructions. You just have to know where to look.

Go to the front pages of the Advanced User Guide...look at the Table of Contents...Look under 'Shooting' and then 'Switching Between Focusing Modes'.
It will show you how you can turn Face Detection On of Off.
Or look in the Index at the back...go to FOCUS.
