Takes Jesus' own words He blew into the disciples to receive the holy spirit and the power of truth and speech. Though it is hard to believe, the spirit is in you and whatever comes out of your mouth that speech is the tongue that can be in gibberish speech or proper language. That you must take God to have the power to understand any language, and so the words formed in your mouth is of the holy spirit and God understands be it in gibberish language. So it is not surprising that you hear all forms of gibberish expression in sound and pitch at a meeting where the speaking in tongue is common and practiced. Remember let God be God don't limit Him to only language you understand. When speaking in tongue it is speaking to God or praying to God. God certainly understands because it is the speech made by the Holy Spirit.

Speaking in tongues was used in Acts 2 so that the apostles could be understood by all of the Jewish members at Pentecost. There were over 5,000 baptized there from "all over". They were able to understand the preaching without a translator in that way. It was also used by the apostles to prove they had the Holy Spirit in them, as they were understood without speaking in the native tongue. This gifts have ceased to exist after the Apostles deaths. Have a great evening.

Let me tell you- I am a Christian.. I do NOT practice speaking in tongues--have never--did NOT plan to.
I was at a Joyce Meyer Conference. And in the Praise and Worship, I was REALLY praising God, and I said,"Holy Spirit,......."
and before I KNEW what was going on--I was speaking in tongues. I promise you.
Afterwards, my HEART felt SO RENEWED and SO REFRESHED, that I can not DARE try to explain.
BUT!! It made me believe in speaking in tongues.
I have done it about four times, now. I do NOT try.
I think God has chosen to give me that gift. I do not understand it, so I don't even TELL anyone, yet(about three or four people).
In their religion, they speak tongues and they are happy that I found out--that tongues IS REAL.
YES, it IS GOD.
NOTHING ELSE.

Because you do not use your mind when you are speaking in tongues, there is no logic involved, other that choosing to let the Holy Spirit speak through you. The Bible tells us that out of your innermost being shall flow rivers of living waters. It is not emanating from your head or your mind. It is the mind of God flowing through the believer as he or she yields themselves to the Holy Spirit of God. The value of this gift is that it edifies you, as you 'pray in the Spirit' and your mind being unfruitful, does not know what the Spirit is praying through you to God. Not even the devil knows the mind of God. It is a powerful way to pray.
Yes, it is really God. Jesus used the example, if a child asks his father for an egg...will he give him a scorpion? (Scorpions can curl up into a ball and can appear like an egg.) In otherwords, our heavenly Father is not going to give us something evil when we ask Him... for He gives good gifts to His children. Don't seek the gift...seek the One who gives the gift.

God gave people the language that everyone understood so the Gospels spread faster.
Now there is no need to speaking with tongues at the church unless there is someone who could translate it.

Yes
God's word tells us that it is a gift from God for our "Edification",
the building up of the church.
Here is what God's Word has to say about it.
1 Corinthians 14. 1-5
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.
For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.
But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.
He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified

while it comprises the counterfeit. some chasing after the lusts of the human heart pick to have self belief it is from God devoid of giving it a 2nd concept. With the authentic present of speaking in tongues you comprehend what you assert and it grow to be for preaching the Gospel.

It's just a multilanguage gift like, like german, spanish, greek, etc. It's when you just happen to find the right words to say in your second language.
