My wife got the Sony DCR-SR100 handycam for Christmas and it works great except for editing the videos. It comes with a program for 'editing' from Pixela. One can really only edit the clips themselves. Forget stringing them with other clips to great small movies. I was looking into other software options. Windows Movie Maker doesn't work, the files will not import. I was looking at Cyberlink PowerDirector 5 or Sony Vegas Moviemaker.

I am looking to make an audition tape for a TV show and am having no luck in editing with the software Sony provided. Anyone have any ideas?

Here's a discussion thread regarding video editing programs for the Sony DCR-SR100
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/t129781.html

The only programs that support smart encoding (will not recode and thus degrade video quality) of the MPEG2 video formats are:
Ulead VideoStudio 10 - http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm
Womble Video Wizard - http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm
Magix Movie Edit Pro 11 - http://site.magix.net/english-us/home/video/movie-edit-pro-11/?version=standard

You can download trial version at the manufacturers websites.

You need a digital capture card in your computer, for best download from your camera ( images or pics.)
Unplug the cable (USB) and download your files .
After that, you can use, for editting, Nero, DVD Creator, CyberLink, even MovieMaker, ... etc .
You can't edit your video files on camera itself.
I'm not sure that I uderstood your problem .

Craig,
Download a trial of Pinnacle's Studio and see what you think.
It works great for me!

What exactly do you mean when you say you can only edit the clips themselves and not string them together? Please post details and I will reply ASAP when you post them.
