It seems there was a little confusion on the affect of the illegal immigration crack down at the Swift and Co meat packing plant. Apparently everything is not going as well as some of you stated. Some Facts:
Swift and Co., whose meatpacking plant was raided on December 12, said this month that the raid could cost the company as much as $30 million.
And farm groups said farmers faced millions of dollars in losses this year if a crackdown against illegal immigration continues without a balancing program to bring in workers legally.

Here is the Deal. That $30 million. Swift will not "eat " it. They will add it to the price of the food. And the new more expensive workers again they will pass it on to us. And when the workers want a raise they will say sorry can't afford it. Lost $30 million you know.

That's what they get. Had they been hiring LEGAL people to do the jobs all these years...they wouldn't have had this problem. So HA HA on them. That's what they get!!!

I'm glad its costing Swifts money, they don't deserve to make a profit from illegal actions. Its as illegal for them to hire illegal aliens as it is for the illegal aliens to work
Your post is just more propaganda from the pro illegal lobby.
Which farmers ? Show me with a link ,a credible link.
Why do you pro illegals NEVER post links ?
The farmers who grow oranges, avocado, and strawberries might be in trouble but because of the freeze nothing more.
Phillip Martin, an economist at the University of California, Davis, has demolished the argument that a crackdown on illegals would ruin it agriculture or be a hardship to consumers. Most farming livestock, grains, etc. doesn't heavily rely on hired workers. Only about 20 percent of the farm sector does, chiefly those areas involving fresh fruit and vegetables.
The average "consumer unit" in the U.S. spends $7 a week on fresh fruit and vegetables, less than is spent on alcohol, according to Martin. On a $1 head of lettuce, the farm worker gets about 6 or 7 cents, roughly 1/15th of the retail price. Even a big run-up in the cost of labor can't hit the consumer very hard.
Martin recalls that the end of the bracero guest-worker program in the mid-1960s caused a one-year 40 percent wage increase for the United Farm Workers Union. A similar wage increase for legal farm workers today would work out to about a 10-dollar-a-year increase in the average family's bill for fruit and vegetables. Another thing happened with the end of the bracero program: The processed-tomato industry, which was heavily dependent on guest workers and was supposed to be devastated by their absence, learned how to mechanize and became more productive.http://usawakeup.org/HowToDestroyAmerica.htm
All I have to do is look at WHO is pushing for this and I can see the real picture....Below is from your link, thank you for posting one...
On January 8, the League of United Latin American Citizens and the Hispanic Federation asked Democratic leaders to take action on immigration within 100 days, saying the raids "stirred further emotion and fear" in the Hispanic communities.
Swift and Co., whose meatpacking plant was raided on December 12, said this month that the raid could cost the company as much as $30 million.
And farm groups said farmers faced millions of dollars in losses this year if a crackdown against illegal immigration continues without a balancing program to bring in workers legally.( notice it doesnt name the farmers and groups)
"There is a sense of urgency here," said Sen. Larry Craig (news, bio, voting record), an Idaho Republican who, along with California Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein (news, bio, voting record), introduced a bill that would create a special program for illegal farm workers to adjust their status.(again the bleeding heart liberal from San Francisco and her PC-BS first it was homosexuals now its illegal aliens that are her flavor of the month)
U.S. companies are also clamoring for more H1B visas to allow foreign software engineers and other skilled workers into the country.( more jobs that Americans wont do )
The 65,000 visas allotted for 2007 were taken by the end of May last year, months before the end of the fiscal year in September, said Jack Krumholtz, the head of Microsoft Corp.'s government affairs office. It is also difficult to get permanent U.S. residency for foreign workers who would like to stay, he said.

I leave near the plant in Minnesota, i hear that hundreds of local (legal) locals were lined up to get the vacated jobs....I have no sympathy for the company, they knew the rules and decided to play it fast and loose....companies like these are the problem, and the source of the influx of illegals.....Swift can go to the devil for all I care.
In answer to Americano above, Americans were lined up and wanting these jobs. We don't need illegal labor
I worked in beef plants as a young man, it's dangerous, demanding, dirty work...i think of these plants as hiring slave labor. I don't blame the mexicans for bettering their way of life, however, these plants are not obeying the law and the working conditions have deteriorated and the quality of meat has declined

Wow. That's a lot of money!
Same thing happened in Washington state! The moment the National Guard appeared on the border, orchard farmers here noticed a drop in workers available pick fruit.
After a few days the news fizzled. Seems like they found someone after all.
Yes, I'm happy. It's about time we started rounding them up.

Actually, we DO already have a guest worker program ... one that allows foreign workers to enter the United States, work for a specified time, and then GO HOME! That is a perfectly good balancing program ... but one neither the illegals nor their supporters want to hear about ... because it stipulates you go home after your stint here is over, not squat down and demand citizenship ....
