The origin of the universe and the concept of infinity are so gut-wrenching that introducing a God as the answer is entirely logical.
What is not logical is the definition of all the different Gods that all of earth's religions offer to us as "The answer." Seems that most of us agree that there is a God - we just don't seem to be able to agree on which religion is promoting the one and only true God?
Are we being presumptuous in trying define what is beyond our ken???

The universe has been in existence since the time of the Big Bang. Currently, there is a theory that the birth and death of a universe is a never ending cycle so maybe, a different universe had existed before the Big Bang started our universe. The Big Bang started from a point of singularity where at that time, all the forces were united and eventually the universe started expanding in its inflationary stage. The time during 10 to the power of -43 seconds is known as the Planck epoch and scientists are trying to figure out what happened exactly at the Big Bang. Two good books would be Stephen Hawking's A Briefer History Of Time and Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe. You could also post messages and discuss astronomy and space topics on astrowhiz at Yahoo Groups which is updated daily!

in the beginning, god is, was, and always will be. God had a thought. It became manifest as a point in space containing an infinite amoint of energy. Then God began unfolding potential space. Infinite energy expanded into exanding space.. As space expanded, it gradually expanded at a rate faster than the speed of light. At that point, the energy density in the zone of expansion began to decrease, and matter precipitated. From there the rules of Newtonian pphysics ( in particualr, gravity) became manifest, and the rest is history.

yes i think something cant come from nothing, the very idea of a universe with or without a god is scary, it goes back to the those questions how big and what is beyond that and how old and young something is, things we were not meant to understand

Maybe the universe IS God, and we are all inside God, who knows!
Also, what is God? something that "creates" like a human does a piece of pottery is very humanistically small minded.

IF the universe always existed then it did NOT come from nothing, it was always here.

Careful, you might blowup some peoples minds thinking of a concept before anything was and how it got here.
