My 6 year old Chihuawuas are tearing up our new yard (we just moved). They eat the dirt and the grass and wont stop. Are they missing certain nutrients in their food? We started giving them senior vitamins. But they are eating more dirt than dog food? Can someone please tell me what to do?? They are literally eating all of our dirt and mud!!

i'm not a veterinarian, but i have heard that dogs who eat dirt have worms and are trying to feel like they have a full belly

in any event, i would call your vet to ask if there is something wrong

Chewing is normal, but if she's eating everything, she could have some sort of a deficiency, meaning she's lacking in a nutrient and trying to get it by eating all sorts of things. I suggest you take her to the vet to get that checked out. As far as the digging and chewing, you should try to exercise her more. She could have destructive behavior and ignore your discipline because she has too much energy that needs to be put to work. Spend time training her to exercise her mentally and take her for a long walk or two a day, or take her on a long jog.

give them a stuff animal, they probably smell moles underground and it makes them eat the dirt to get to a mole.
throw a ball in the yard or a stuff animal they will change their tune
