I have a canvas and had started painting on it, but now I dont like what I have done so I want to restart from scratch, I tried putting white paint over it but the paint still shows through, does anyone know how to get it back to white?

You should paint your canvas with acrylic gesso, thats what the canvas was originally primed with...you can find it at any arts or crafts store. And to get a smooth finish just sand in between coats.

wait until the paint is thouroghly dry, and then mix gesso with more water and paint a layer over it. If the black still shows through, you may need a second layer, but gesso is pretty thick and should cover up whta's underneath. Yo can buy it from the tub in any art store.

You have to wait until the paint is dry, and THEN you put as many layers of white paint as needed. :)

you need gesso. it is a primer. you can get it at hobby stores as well as art supply stores. cool trick...change the texture of your canvas by putting it on thick in places or by mixing sand or something like that in it when you put it on there

The best thing for that is arcrylic primer. It works with both oil and arcrylic paints. but if that doesn't work, then titanium white is another option.
