It is more important that it respects you, first. Then the bond will come. People that bond with dogs that don't respect them, end up having big problems with them.

It will respect you by your first becoming its "pack leader."

Here are some suggestions
When you first get to know him/her, don't get too close like in its face and stuff like that and start holding it a lot. That's after you get to know eachother. Let the dog roam and don't strangle it. Let it get to know you. After a while, your dog will feel comfortable around you and get more up close and maybe even lick you! Then that is the right time to share some love with him/her. If it needs something, give it to him/her. Don't be scary to your dog like disciplining and hurting it, be friendly or the dog might run away or stay away from you. No neglecting either. There could be a chance of death if you do neglect your dog!
Hope that helps you!

A dog bonds with whomever it sleeps with. I only had one dog that I never bonded with and it was because my parents made him sleep outside. Since I have been an adult dog owner, about 15 years, my dogs sleep in my bed with me and no problem with bonding - they adore me! When I was in a roommate situation, I let my golden sleep with a 7-year old because the 7-year old had to go to bed at 8:00 and he would cry. Going with the dog resolved the situation but then my dog thought he belonged to him after a few months!

to love it and take care of it. don't stick it in the kennel or in the garage at night. it is best if it sleeps if not in your arms at least in your room. take it for walks. you also have to make sure that you are the leader. if you are then the dog will love you and respect you and do what you say.
to know if you are the leader youcan do this:
1. make the dog sit
2. put your fingers gently around its nose and rest your chin directly the back of your hand. you need to be above him and starring him in the eye.
3. give him praise while still holding your position.
4. if your dog puts his ears back, wags his tail and tries to lick your chin, you are the boss
if he roll's on his back showing his belly, then he is totally surrendering to you. but you don't need him to do that

i know this may sound crazy, but the alpha wolf demands sumission from the other wolves by puttin their mouths in his then he lets go and they lick him on the chin.
Good luck!

Spend time with it. You get a lot of bonding from teaching it tricks and playing with its toys. Dogs love games like tug of war, fetch, and taking walks. If you spend time with them you will get more love then just giving them food and buying them toys. Just play with them and have fun!

spend time with it.

sleep with it.

eat with it.

shower with it.

take it with you all the time. i work for myself so i can take my dog with me. my truck i had was a F-350 Ford and it was a diesel and the dog would hear the sound and go crazy. it was his truck but he was nice enought to let me drive it. and when i drove he hung his head out the window and when he drove i hung my head out the window.

its this kinda relationship you have to have.

i have had 2 dogs that mean more to me that most people and both were bonded to me. for 24 hours a day i kept them with me and they will learn your patterns and you theirs. you have to watch them they talk also but its different ways. watch for body language from them and you will give them body language also if you know it or not.

Talk to it and spend a lot of time with it. You don't even necessarily need to be playing with it but do acknolwedge it is there and that you are glad it is there with you. The more it gets used to your voice and tone the more it will understand when you are not happy with it when it is naughty.

Spend lots of time with it, play with it, love it, feed it, train it. Don't just stick it in a backyard and forget it. Make it part of your life and your household. You will have a friend for life.

give your pet plenty of love, rub them (in/on a favorite spot) especially when you praise them, give them treats, just let them lay next to you and scratch and/or rub them as the lay next to you. They do understand more than a lot of people think and they know when you are telling them that you love them.
