Hi there. Molting can be very stressful for some birds. Proper nutrition of pellets 10%seeds,10%fruits and veggies and chopped hard cooked egg with the shell crushed up will help. Blood feathers are not to be pulled out. The idea is to aid in preening the pin feather's sheath off by gently rolling them between your fingers. Many birds do fine with no aid from us at all. It will help to teach your bird to bathe in warm water 2 inches deep by fluttering your fingers in the water and acting really enthusiastic, three times a week. The tongue may have gotten accidentally stained. Your bird will be fine. Just improve his diet, let him bathe, and love him as usual. Have a tweet year.

Cockatiels should not have black on their toungs. He may have gotten into something. The info on pellets is correct. Before changing his diet, he should see a vet to check his general health.

If the black is not gone in a day or two I would call the vet and tell them what is going on. They may want him to come in.
