I'm looking for a recipe for homemade dog treats that are healthy, but still taste good.

Anyone have any links to any?

Thanks!

Cheers,

Dog Treat Recipe

A little treat to keep your "best friend" happy!

* 1/4 cup hot tap water
* 8 chicken bouillon cubes
* 1 package active dry yeast
* 1 tsp sugar
* 1-1/2 cups tomato juice
* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 2 cups wheat germ
* 2 cups whole-wheat flour

1. Pour the water into a large bowl. Add the chicken cubes & crush them with a fork. Stir in the yeast & sugar & let stand for about 5 minutes.

2. Stir in the tomato juice, 1 cp all-purpose flour & the wheat germ. Stir with a large spoon to form a smooth batter. Then stir in the remaining all-purpose & whole-wheat flours. This will make the dough very dry & stiff.

3. Take a couple of handfuls of dough out & work into a small ball shape. Then, with a rolling pin, flatten the balls on a lightly floured surface. Cut with our dogbone cutters. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.

4. Now use a cookie cutter to cut out your dog treats.

5. Finally, use a spatula to put your dog treats onto a cookie sheet. Then bake at 325 degrees for 20-30 minutes.

6. Serve with a bowl of water & a nice big bone!

i made these treats for my dogs a few days ago when we were iced in and they LOVED them and are supposed to be really good for them. i offered them the baked treat in one hand a store bought treat in the other and both chose the baked one.

2 c. flour
1 tbs fresh garlic, minced
2 tbs garlic powder
1/2 c. olive oil
1/8 c. honey
1/4 c. water

Just mix it all together well. Then knead it a bit and roll it out to about 1/4inch and cut into small pieces. Bake at 325 5-10 minutes or until golden brown.

The garlic is supposed to be really good for dogs and even is a mild flea repellant.

Canine Cookies

1 1/2 cups wheat flour
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup skim milk powder
1/3 cup beef fat (or bacon drippings)
1 large egg
1 cup cold water

Mix flour and milk powder. drizzle with fat, add egg and water. Mix to form dough. Roll out, cut into biscuts with a dog bone shapped cookie cutter. Bake at 300 degrees for 60 minutes.

I used turkey drippings for the beef fat and some of the water. I also threw in 1/4 cup parsley (for doggie breath) and 1/2 cup low fat cheese. That was my puppies Christmas present and he loved them! Enjoy (we tasted them and thought they could have used some salt but they were good). It makes for a funny moment if you have young kids and eat a "dog" biscut in front of them. Have fun!

My neighbor, who is actually a professional dog therapy trainer, knows these work very well! These are homemade delicacies!

Just cook little, THIN SLICED pieces of hot dog in the microwave until crispy. These are basically just chips, except they are hot dogs! Dogs LOVE them, and they excellent for training, too! They are very healthy as well. Have fun!
