Humane Society Of Rome, NY

Here's a listing of all the cats available there:

Sheesh, they must have an employee who's entire job is to take multiple photos of 75 plus animals and post them online with descriptions!

You may find it more economical to adopt from a shelter. Even though you will have to pay, the fee often covers the cat's initial vaccinations and spaying/neutering. Most shelters also give all cats a physical.
The adoption fee is a great deal when you consider how much it will cost to get a "free" kitten and then have a physical, vaccinations, and spaying/neutering done by a "private" vet.

I suggest checking out Craigslist periodically (Utica or Syracuse listings).
Utica Craigslist: http://utica.craigslist.org/
Syracuse: http://syracuse.craigslist.org/
Here's the Craigslist list for NY cities & towns in case you see another that's closer: http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/ny

you can look in the news paper, your local animal shelter might have some but there is a small adoption fee.
