I believe in God but have been gambling for over two years. The idea is to earn enough money to live on, not to become rich.
But when I win, others lose.....God and gambling.....can they both be part of my life?

Actually the Bible is pretty cool with gambling:

Numbers 26:52-56
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying ... the land shall be divided by lot.

Joshua 14:2
By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.

Joshua 18:6
Ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God.

Joshua 19:51
These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, divided for an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the LORD.

Joshua 21:8
And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.

1 Chronicles 26:13-14
And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate. And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward.

Nehemiah 10:34
And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God.

Acts 1:23-26
And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen.... And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Also don't forget the wager that God had with Satan regarding Job.

What your are asking "Is gambling ethical" is a question that will have as many different answers as there are people. As everyone has different ethics.

As far as my ethics:
Yes, winging money from gambling is morally correct. If all parties involved in the bet are aware of how the bet works and the outcomes of winning or losing, then I see no problem. The people you bet against (whether it be individuals in a card game or the casino) sure don't seem to mind taking your money when you loose, so take theirs when you win.

I think that if you hurt others, or take money from those who can't aford to lose it, then I think your in the bad karma zone. If you're living on your winnings, and not hurting any body, more power to you. However I find that gambling in the long run doesnt really pay the bills, in fact most people lose money. Take a serious look at your bank accounts, are you winning or loseing. If your down, but still want to gamble go seek help.

Which God? Whose Ethics?
Go to China and see their views on gambling!
Your stuck in the Western Christian view point, which culturally may be your preference, if it is then you'd better stop what your doing.

As long as the people who gamble against you are doing so in a fair environment and are aware of the risks involved, including the 'edge' you may have over them, then it should be their problem not yours.

Of course gambling is ethical. It is the other persons choice whether or not they want to gamble. Or is God opposed to free will?

gambling is an addiction...why is it that you don't find honest work for an honest days pay? It sounds as if God and gambling can't both be a part of your life....you have a conscience and a heart....something in your heart says 'no, this isn't right' You'll have a better relationship with God if you listen to that still, quiet voice and do what you know is right....and isn't that the point of our lives, to live in peace with Him and doesn't He promise that His yoke is easy and His burden light?

You need to define your own ethics, and do what you feel is right. Personally I don't feel there is anything wrong with it, it's entertainment for me. People with addiction problems can get in trouble with it, but if it wasn't gambling it would be something else.

Here's how to appease God with your gambling. Anytime you win you can split it with him. Go outside after you win and throw your winnings in the air. Whatever God catches, he can keep.
