My little girl is 10 months, she has shown an interest in the toilet, so we pulled out her potty. I've always believed that children will train when they are ready. However my husband is having surgery on his hand which will make diapering difficult and I am going back to work. Just wondering if people have any tips on toilet training before one year (I know lots of people have done it). Thanks

She might be interested, but physically she is far from ready. At this age, she has little to no control of her bladder which will make it very difficult to potty train her.

I've actually read that children who are potty trained at this young of age have problems later on such as bed wetting, wetting themselves, and bladder problems.

I'd say keep her in diapers until she's older. If your husband won't be able to diaper her after his surgery, then have her use pull ups until his hand heals.

I am flabberghasted ( if that is really a word). I have never heard of anyone trying to toilet train a baby until they were about 2 1/2. I have NEVER heard of anyone trying to potty train a baby as young as 1 year. I guess maybe you should talk to some of those lots of people who have done it.
I have raised 5 children and have worked with young children all my life, I thought I had heard of everything but this one has got me stumped.
If there is really a method for potty training a child who totally lacks the physical ability to control their bladder or their bowels then I would think it would be making headlines. I did not think that there was a breakthrough of this magnitude that I was not aware of but I could be wrong. It would certainly disprove everything that we know so far about the physiological capabilities of babies.
Are you sure that someone has not been teasing you?

They say you should not try to toilet train til the child is two. Some children are ready before then though I believe. Dr. Phil used a baby doll to help potty train. I never used that idea, but you set up a potty for the baby and your child takes the baby to the potty.

I just always took my kids and asked them all the time. You have to make them aware of having to Pee......

If your child is showing interest in toilet training that is great just don't expect to much from her. She will do this on her own when she is about 2-3 years old. She knows you use the toilet so that makes her want to use it, but she don't know the concept she doesnt know why you are standing there over the toilet or sitting on the toilet. You need to be patient. You rush her and you will regret it, you will have pee messes all the time in bed. So just wait. Don't make her grow up too fast they do that fast enough.

Everytime you need to potty take her with you, and show her what the potty is for. Even if you dont have to go still sit in there with her untill she potties. Rewards and Praise go a long way as well if she notices that she gets special things after sitting on the potty she may start trying it more.. My neice potty trained at a year old with this method, and we never had problems with her..

i don't think you should before one year at least give them ample time to get used to the fact that they have legs to walk. Then after a long while like 2 years let them know they can control other parts of their body good luck
