If you don't know the difference, then you probably haven't ever heard of Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop is where both rap and hip-hop started off. It was started by people like Afrika Bambataa. Hip-hop is more of the art of DJing rather than Emceeing. Emcees basically overwhelmed the industry so the music was supporting the words more than the words were supporting the music. That is called rap, and that is the difference.
