Even though we're from Atlanta, we prefer Lowe's. The reason is the personal attention you get there and the lack of attitude. People seem generally more knowledgeable at Lowe's about pretty much anything you want to ask them.
My husband says if you ever want to feel needed, just wear an orange shirt to a Home Depot store. lol

I prefer Lowes for style. But where I live they are not cheaper than Home Depot. When I bought my house and had to fix a lot of things, I tended to go to Lowes becasue it was much closer and always got frustrated becasue they never had what I needed! I own a cabinetmaking business so I frequent these kids of stores and for me, I would vote Home Depot hands down. But now that I think about it, I did get $1600 worth of lighting at Lowe's sidewalk clearance sale for $150. They were the display lights selling at 90% and that is the sort of sale I have never seen at Home Depot. But for a hardware store, Home Depot would be my choice.

I prefer Lowe's, but I usually shop at Home Depot because it's closer to me. It's hard to find anybody to help you at Home Depot, and the store here is always hot (here near Seattle, they don't air-condition the place in the summer...). I do like Home Depot's web site better, though.

I don't like either one because I don't like who they sponser in NASCAR. But other than that, I will never go back to Home Depot as long as I live. I bought 2 lawn tractors from them in 2 months, both of which broke down on me, and Home Depot refused to honor their own replacement or repair policy.

My husband and I shop at Lowe's because the orange at Home Depot makes him angry. Odd, I know, but true.

Home Depot - because we don't have Lowe's where I live.

Lowe's....around here anway... they just seem cleaner and more organized than Home Depot. Plus, if I need any assistance, always easier to find somebody:)

They are both the same to me. No help, long walking distances, no help loading, poor quality and not any cheaper then your local building supply store.
