Two coats make for a nicer, more even finish. Plus, you should always wash the walls before painting them - get all the smoke off.

Definately wait for it to dry, but it sounds like you probably will need 2 coats. Did you wash the walls down good before painting? Because heavy smoke will bleed through alot of the time, and you maybe should have sealed it with Kilz before painting...sorry for the bad news;) You might even do the Kilz after this first coat dries if it looks really bad, then you'll probably just have to put on one more coat of your paint, but it will look really good! I hope this helps:)
Good Luck!!

TWO coats should do it. For your information a $10.00 gallon of paint normally does not have good hiding qualities. The next time consider buying better grade of paint and you will make the job easier.

you've got to wait for it to dry any way and if the smoke is that bad you had to put a stain blocking primer down first cause the smoke damage will just keep bleeding threw your water based paint film, painting is easy and rewarding if you just follow the directions on the can, drying time, re coat time all this was put on the label for a reason, good luck, don't rush

If you were using a high quality paint like Benjamin Moore, I would say one coat, but Lowe's paint quality is not too terrific. Give it two. Good luck.

Well...you should always wait until a coat is dry to the touch...You'll find the covering becomes more uniform as it does dry....There are sooo many different formulas of paint out there, but i would say, you only get waht you pay for.....Hope this helps

No matter what the can of paint says it always takes at least two coats of paint. I always figure one coat of primer and two coats of paint no matter what.
