Strep throat is an infection caused by group A streptococcus bacteria, and it's very common among kids and teens. The symptoms of strep throat include fever, stomach pain, and red, swollen tonsils.
Strep throat usually requires treatment with antibiotics. With the proper medical care - along with plenty of rest and fluids - your child should be back to school and play within a few days.
What's the Difference Between Strep Throat and a Sore Throat?
Not all sore throats are step throats. Most episodes of sore throat - which can be accompanied by a runny nose, cough, hoarseness, and red eyes - are caused by viruses. Sore throats usually clear up on their own without requiring medical treatment.
If your child has strep throat, he or she will start to develop other symptoms within about 3 days. Those symptoms can include:
red and white patches in the throat
difficulty swallowing
tender or swollen glands (lymph nodes) in the neck
red and enlarged tonsils
headache
lower stomach pain
fever
general discomfort, uneasiness, or ill feeling
loss of appetite and nausea
rash
Diagnosing Strep Throat
If your child's throat is sore and he or she has other strep throat symptoms, it's a good idea to call your child's doctor. The doctor will likely do a rapid strep test in the office, using a cotton swab to take a sample of the fluids at the back of your child's throat. The test only takes about 5 minutes. If it's positive, your child has strep throat. If the test is negative, the doctor will send a sample to a lab for a throat culture. The results are usually available within a few days.
Treating Strep Throat
In most cases, doctors prescribe about 10 days of antibiotic medication to treat strep throat. Within about 24 hours after your child starts taking the antibiotics, his or her temperature will probably be back to normal, and your child will no longer be contagious. By the second or third day after taking antibiotics, the other symptoms should start to go away, too.
Even though your child may not feel sick at that point, it's very important that he or she finish the antibiotic prescription. If your child stops taking antibiotics too soon, bacteria can remain in the throat and the symptoms can return.

The symptoms of strep throat are sudden, severe sore throat, pain or difficulty swallowing, fever over 101, swollen tonsils and lymph nodes, and white or yellow spots on the back of a bright red throat. Incubation period is 2 - 5 days from when you were exposed to the bacteria.

the most obvious symptom is a sore throat that doesn't go away. also a headache or fever may come. vomiting and nausea are symptoms as are rashes. you could have many symptoms or just the sore throat but if you think that it could be strep you should have a throat culture done. strep when left untreated for many days can develop into more serious conditions and can lead to all kinds of serious problems.

You will have a crazy sore throat and if you look at the hole in the back of your mouth the walls around the hole will have white like balls of whatever on them. When I start getting a sore throat I start gargling with salt water It will keep it from getting worse, Strep throat sucks and hurts like hell. The worse it gets the more white things and the more you cannot swallow.

Hi. I've had strep throat often. It's more than a sore throat, It affects your entire body. You not only have soreness but your tonsils swell up, sometime almost closing your airway. There usually are long (not round) white spots on your tonsils.
You run a fever and feel terrible.

It's a soar throat. soar throats have a couple ways of accruing, 1: they way you sleep. if you go to bed with a wet head..or sleep with your mouth open, eventually your mouth will dry out and get itchy and then it starts hurting, 2: from the weather changing, is normal. the best thing to get rid of a soar throat the fastest it drink anything hot/warm like: tea, soup, coffee etc. if you decide to drink tea put hunny in it and it will soothe your throat. Also take cough medicines cause eventually you will start coiffing once your throat stops hurting (and if it doesn't go away) you will eventually have a head cold. Gargle with salt water a few times a day. Keep warm, put socks on your feet and stay indoors and you will be fine. follow the steps constantly to get rid of your soar throat the fastest, quickest time. Good luck.

pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, white spots in back of throat, symptoms not going away or getting worse. Have you been exposed to someone with a positive throat culture?
Good idea to see your doctor.

Sore throat, painful swallowing, fever, general body aches, chills-onset can be quick and severe. Very contagious.
Untreated strept throat can allow the bacteria to infect and start chewing on your heart valves. Your heart valves are kinda important. There are quick easy test for this. I would suggest you get it looked at ASAP if you have these symptoms.
