Actually what you have is called "maxillary or palatal tori" and it's hard to determine if they will be easily removed or not, since I have no idea of how large or small they are. Most patients do well with the removal of this excessive bone growth, and with immediate dentures. Having the existing teeth extracted for the immediate denture is an excellent choice. The denture will work as a band aid, to cover the tori surgery area and the extraction sites, helping to reduce and control the swelling and the bleeding. Glad to see you have decided to have the tori removed. Did you ask about the possibility of regrowth? I have not seen it happen where a denture was involved, but have in other cases.
Hopefully they won't, I believe the denture itself may help to prevent that. Good luck, hope I've been of some help this time.

As in all cases after the removal of the teeth, the bone shrinks or reduces in size over time just due to the loss of the tooth, or teeth in your case. This is normal and happens the same with or without immediate placement of the denture. It is at the six month mark that relining is desired, the bone reduction, shape and structure of the mouth is considered to have settled down by then. Although it is well known that the mandibular ridge dissipates over time much faster, and is a know cause for patients displeasure with their ill fitting dentures then.

2nd response to additional information:
With the dimensions you have provided, I don't think you will have a problem at all. The denture being placed over the surgery area will also assist by applying pressure to keep the swelling to a minimum. Swelling it's self can cause pain. Now that is not to say that you won't feel anything, naturally you will have some discomfort. But not anything too uncomfortable. I'm sure your surgeon will have medication prescribed for pain, take this even if you aren't having any right after the surgery. It's easier to keep the pain down with medication while the anesthetic is wearing off, rather than wait until it's intense and try to control it.

As for the relining of the denture, most dentist offer one reline free of charge, at the six month time frame. But there have been times when a soft reline (not a permenant one) is placed, when the condition warrents it due to excessive reduction in the bone and tissue to aid the patients comfort. Adjustment are at no charge, those are necessary and sometimes require several office visits to get the perfect fit and bite. So check with your Dentist and ask questions, they are there to help you with your choices, and answer any questions you might have about the procedure. Good luck!

at the general office i work at, not oral surgeon we remove tori everyday. it is surgical but patients do well, if your numb for simple extractions your numb the same for surgical extractions. maybe more work for the dentist but not on you.

it is necessary to have the tori removed.

keep it mind if your doing immediate dentures which too me means getting them the same day your not allowing time for your gums to heal.

without your gums healing the plate will become lose as your gums shrink and heal up form the surgery.

you will need additional soft liners to keep the denture fitted while your healing

then a hard reline can be done to permanently tighten the plate back to your gums. this is usually done six months to a year later

might want to check on if the prices for the plate include these liners
