Honestly, President Bush should have increased the troops count a long time ago. Adding another X amount, even if it's a pretty big X, will not cause any major changes. I hate using metaphors, but it's like Bush putting a band-aid on a gun shot wound. It's not going to work.

It's too far gone for troop increases. Two years ago, maybe. Unless Bush & Congress imposes a draft and send 1 Million+ troops over there to completely domineer the country, no surge can fix the problem. No draft will be imposed, however, since no one supports one.

We put the army along the Syrian and Turkish borders, the USMC along the Iran border with the Brits and keep the Virgin Hunters out. The USAF can deal with infiltrating groups. The USN can patrol the Red Sea and use invaders for target practice. We then let the Iraqi troops and police establish internal order without outside intervention. Civilians will stay away from the border and any violators will be shot when in range.

Increasing the number of troops will do nothing. At this point the only thing that might work is to declare martial law.

If you are asking if I agree with increasing the number of troops in Iraq you need to restructure your question.

Yes. Absolutely. We should do whatever it takes to win. I think we should even use nukes if means a faster end to the war and less risk to American troops.
