Is it tame? Will it let you come up and pet it or does it run away? Does it look healthy?
If it's friendly, you might try finding a no-kill cat shelter to take him in. You also might try talking to the local humane society.
If he's not friendly, the odds of this cat finding a home are very poor. The best thing to do would be to take him to the local animal shelter, where he will get vet care, and they wil try to adopt him out. If he's too unfriendly, they will humanely euthanize him, which is a lot better than dying unwanted in the streets.
You also might want to make sure that he's not a neighbor's outside cat. Post "found cat" flyers around your local neighborhood and see if you get a response.

Your stray cat will end up on the scrap heap if you take it to an animal shelter, they can't cope with the cats they have. Why not educate your family, I would feed the animal and make a friend out of it. You must be a lovely person to have it living in your yard.

if it is a tomcat it would benefit the neighborhood from rats, snakes etc.
U could call the animal control and they will take it to a shelter and have it adopted out.

Take the cat to a shelter so it can get medical treatment, neutering, and be put up for adoption.

call your local ASPCA, they don't kill animals unless they find it necessary for the animal's wellbeing
