will the xbox 360 hd dvd player upscale normal dvds,?

also will it play dvds in true hd (1080) with just the component cables?

The only way to get 1080p from the hd-dvd is to connect your xbox using the VGA connection.

to my knowlege the xbox 360 is only capable of 720p. as far as i'm aware all hd dvd players can play normal dvds, but it won't make them look any better.

No. You can't get 1080p with components. Need HDMI for that. 1080i is the max on component.
